Ran Yi, Research Fellow and Ph.D. in Engineering, is a Science and Technology Support Talent of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), a Master's Supervisor, and Director of the Testing Technology Research Center at the Biogas Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (BIOMA), CAAS.

He serves as Executive Deputy Director of the Quality Inspection and Testing Center for Biogas Products and Equipment, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and Deputy Director of the Laboratory for Quality and Safety Risk Assessment of Biomass Fermentation Products (Chengdu), Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. Concurrently, He serves as Deputy Secretary-General of the 8th Council of the China Association of Rural Energy Industry; Chair of the Professional Committee on Biogas (Biomethane) Quality and Safety of the China Biogas Society; and Vice Chair of the National Technical Committee on Biogas Standardization (SAC/TC515). He is also a member of the Expert Guidance Group on Biogas Work Safety of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs; Deputy Head of the Sichuan Provincial Expert Guidance Group on Biogas Work Safety; member of expert pools on agricultural resources and environment, rural energy and ecology for the agricultural and rural affairs departments/bureaus of Shanxi Province, Liaoning Province, Gansu Province and Chengdu Municipality; and a registered review expert for the science and technology departments of Sichuan Province, Chongqing Municipality and Hebei Province.

Research interests: agricultural resources and environment; monitoring technologies and standardization for rural energy ecology and rural living environments; low- and zero-carbon rural planning and development; safe utilization of digestate fertilizer; biogas safety, agricultural and rural confined-space work safety technologies, and related equipment.

Projects and scientific achievements: Principal Investigator of more than 10 provincial- and ministerial-level research projects and subprojects, and more than 100 enterprise-sponsored projects and government-purchased service projects. Published more than 20 papers as first author or corresponding author, including 15 papers in JCR Q1 journals; served as editor-in-chief of one monograph and co-author/editor of one book; obtained more than 20 authorized patents and software copyrights; led the development or revision of more than 10 national and industry standards; and drafted technical reports that received affirmative instructions from provincial- and ministerial-level leaders on two occasions. Awards for scientific and technological achievements include: Second Prize of the 2022 Sichuan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award for “Efficient Anaerobic Fermentation Technology and Safe Utilization of Agricultural Organic Waste” (ranked first); and Second Prize of the 2016 Chengdu Science and Technology Progress Award for “Biogas Engineering Testing Technologies and Devices” (ranked first).
