Internationally Renowned Anaerobic Microbiologist Dr. Jan Dolfing Visits the Institute
On October 26, 2026, Professor Jan Dolfing, a renowned expert in the field of anaerobic microbiology, was invited to visit the Biogas Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and delivered a lecture entitled "Thermodynamics of Methanogenic Ecosystems".
Dr. Jan Dolfing has long been engaged in research on microbial interactions and their thermodynamic mechanisms in anaerobic ecosystems. His research areas cover wastewater treatment, methanogenic bioreactors, and microbial fuel cells. He has published a series of research results in internationally renowned journals such as The ISME Journal, Environmental Science & Technology, and Water Research, possessing profound academic accumulation and broad academic influence.
During the lecture, Dr. Jan Dolfing systematically introduced the fundamental theories and computational methods of thermodynamics. He then elaborated on the application of thermodynamic theory in anaerobic microbial metabolic research, using typical research cases as examples. He focused on how to use thermodynamic analysis to reveal the energy characteristics and microbial interaction mechanisms of anaerobic metabolic processes, thus aiding in understanding the operational laws of anaerobic ecosystems.
After the lecture, Dr. Dolfing visited the laboratory of the Anaerobic Microbial Innovation Team and engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions with key members of the team on thermodynamic issues in the isolation, culture, and metabolic mechanism research of anaerobic microorganisms, as well as collaborative high-level research.
This academic exchange activity was hosted by Assistant Researcher Yi Yue, and attended by Researcher Cheng Lei and other researchers, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students from the Anaerobic Microbial Innovation Team.
