Research Team from the Biogas Institute of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Conducted a Field Survey in Qinghai Province on the Resource Utilization of Livestock and Poultry Waste and Aligned Scientific and Technological Needs
From April 26 to 27, a delegation led by Director Haibo Meng from the Biogas Institute of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (BIOMA) conducted a research and exchange visit to Xining, Qinghai Province. Focusing on coordinating ecological environmental protection with high-quality development of agriculture and animal husbandry in Qinghai, the delegation carried out in-depth investigations into non-point source pollution control and resource utilization of agricultural and pastoral sectors, as well as the technological adaptability of biogas engineering systems in alpine regions. The team gained a comprehensive understanding of local conditions and scientific and technological needs, and reached preliminary cooperation intentions with relevant institutions.

During the visit, Director Meng and his team successively inspected several sites, including Haizigou Pig Farming Cooperative in Huangzhong District, Datong Luming Breeding Cooperative (Hetianbao Organic Fertilizer Processing Plant), and Datong Cunjun Beef Cattle Farm. They conducted on-site investigations into the collection, storage, and resource utilization of biomass wastes such as livestock and poultry manure and animal carcasses, and examined the current status of biogas production, storage, and utilization facilities in small-scale farming units.

The delegation also held discussions with officials and experts from the Qinghai Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and other relevant institutions. The exchanges focused on practical needs during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, particularly the resource utilization of agricultural and livestock biomass waste and the development of biogas energy in high-altitude regions.
Staff from the Institute’s General Office and the Team of Biomass Fermentation Product Quality, Safety and Risk Assessment participated in the visit. Representatives from the Qinghai Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Provincial Academy of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences, and the Provincial Animal Husbandry Station also attended the discussions.
