The “New Era, New Vision” China–International Co-production Program is jointly organized by the China International Communications Group (CICG), the Documentary Channel of China Media Group (CMG), and Discovery Channel. The program aims to solicit compelling visual storytelling projects from around the world and enhance their international impact through professional mentoring, creative training, and global promotion, with the goal of presenting authentic stories of China and strengthening international communication.

The third edition of the program attracted broad international participation, receiving 13,612 project submissions from organizations across 46 countries. Following a rigorous selection process, 160 projects were chosen. BIOMA's Blue Flame was selected in recognition of its strong thematic relevance and its significant ideological, cultural, artistic, and communication value.

Blue Flame follows the true story of Sala Sagato, a Samoan farmer who learned, adopted, and promoted Chinese biogas technology in his community. Through his personal journey, the documentary tells the story of how biogas technology developed in Sichuan, China, has reached Pacific island countries, helping local farmers gain access to clean energy while improving rural living conditions. The film uses the image of the "blue flame" as its central visual motif, illustrating the transformation of an ordinary farming family—from cooking over smoky coconut-shell fires to preparing meals with clean biogas—and vividly demonstrating how practical Chinese technologies have taken root in Global South countries, improving livelihoods and supporting sustainable rural development.

The selection of Blue Flame for the 3rd “New Era, New Vision” China–International Co-production Program marks another important achievement resulting from BIOMA's long-term commitment to international cooperation in rural clean energy and green agricultural development. Moving forward, the project team will further refine the production plan and narrative in accordance with the program's requirements, while continuing to explore compelling stories that showcase how Chinese biogas technology contributes to sustainable development in Global South countries. Through this documentary, BIOMA aims to produce a high-quality film with strong international appeal, emotional resonance, and practical relevance, contributing to global understanding of China's agricultural science and technology innovation and promoting mutual learning among civilizations.
