High-Level Dialogue on Promoting Smart Energy for Food Security and Rural Development in Developing Countries held in Dujiangyan city

 

Co-sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), organized by the Center of International Cooperation Service, MOA and the Rural Energy& Environment Agency, MOA, co-organized by the Biogas Institute of Ministry of Agriculture (BIOMA), “High-Level Dialogue on Promoting Smart Energy for Food Security and Rural Development in Developing Countries” was held in Dujiangyan city from October 27 to 31.

The opening ceremony held on the morning of October 27 inthe city of Dujiangyan. Inspector Qu Sixi from MOA, Senior Official Mr. Olivier from natural resources and energy department of FAO and Director General Li Qian from BIOMA addressed in the opening ceremony.

Then, Mr. Oliver made a speech entitled “The balance and cooperative relations between sustainable energy sources and food security”.

Li Jingming, director of the Rural Energy& Environment Agency presented the achievements and challenges of China rural energy development.

Dr. Deng Liangwei, chief engineer of the Biogas Institute of Ministry of Agriculture introduced the development of Chinese biogas technology and agricultural waste treatment.

Senior Official Liu Zhongwei from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organizationrecommended the main content and strategy of FAO South-South Cooperation projects.

Participants from 10 countries as Mozambique, Indonesia, Zambia, Costa Rica, Cambodia, Botswana, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam made national reports, in which introduced the demands and potential of rural energy development in their own countries. Participants from different countries had a collective brainstorming respectively with Chinese delegations, analyzing the needs and opportunities in the countries of South-South cooperation and forming a draft action plan for the countries of South-South cooperation projects in rural energy. And all of participating countries reported the results.

During the high-level dialogue, delegates also visited a Chengdu work stock technology company in Dujiangyan city to investigate the specific operations of pig farm biogas project.

From October 9 to 25 before the high-level dialogue, the Biogas Institute of Ministry of Agriculture as a co-organized unit organized a “Rural Energy under South-South Cooperation” training course co-sponsored by MOA and FAO.
