FAO delegation visits BIOMA
On November 3, 2023, Director-General Ye Anping and his delegation from the South-South and Triangular Cooperation Division (PST), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) visited BIOMA. Director-General of BIOMA Wang Dengshan attended an online meeting and exchanged views on how the Institute could better play its role as a reference center for FAO and promote South-South and tripartite cooperation. Other FAO delegation members including Zhang Yahui, Senior Coordinator Liang Xiao, Project Officer and Debel Gutta, Project Consultant also attended the meeting.
Director-General Wang Dengshan extended a warm welcome to Director-General Ye Anping and his delegation to the Institute. He introduced the attempts and achievements of the Institute in developing scientific research fields and participating in technical support, focusing on the effectiveness of international agricultural exchange and cooperation projects, and stressed the necessity of extensive and in-depth South-South technical cooperation guided by the development of the industry and the needs of various parties.
Deputy Director-General o BIOMA He Mingxiong presided over the meeting and introduced the subject system, scientific research achievements, innovation direction and international cooperation of the Institute, reviewed the cooperation mode of the Institute as a reference center for FAO, and indicated that the Institute was willing give full play to its potential professional advantages, and deeply participate in agricultural technical cooperation projects of FAO under the framework of South-South and tripartite cooperation.
Director-General Ye Anping affirmed the positive role played by the Institute in science and technology research and development and industry support. He encouraged the Institute to expand the development of professional fields at the same time, around the two aspects of scientific research and technology application, increase publicity, highlight advantages, sum up experience, reserve talents, integrate the model, carry out national cooperation work on the basis of demand research, and better play the role of reference center.
Senior Coordinator Zhang Yahui appreciated the work of the Institute in scientific research, training and international cooperation, and hoped that the Institute would expand its partnership on the basis of continuous international training and cooperation, select and promote small and beneficial projects that fit the local conditions and construction purposes, and meet the needs of small farmers and rural areas in developing countries so as to stay in line with FAO's vision of promoting sustainable development through South-South and tripartite cooperation.
After the meeting, YE Anping and his delegation visited the Microbiology laboratory of the Institute. Heads and backbones of the Research Management Office, Policy Innovation Team, Training Center and other departments of BIOMA attended the meeting.
