China Boosting Biogas Development in Laos

Lao government officials join representatives from China at the start of the Training on Wednesday. 

 

Lao government officials are upgrading their technical knowledge about new developments in biogas from Chinese experts in Vientiane from June 7 to July 5.

The training programme is being held at the Lao Front for National Constructions training centre with 30 participants attending from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and Ministry of Science and Technology.

Participants are learning how biogas is produced from various forms of decaying organic waste such as garbage or plant crops used as a renewable energy source.

The training programme is aimed to allow participants to learn about energy generation from biogas including the fundamental process and production facilities as well as apply fundamental technical research on biogas, and ultimately boost biogas production in Asian countries.

This programme is being supported by the Ministry of Commerce in China and implemented by Biogas Institute of Ministry of Agriculture of China (BIOMA).

The programme is led by Head of BIOMA of China, Mr. Hu Guoquan and vice chairmen of Laos-China Corporation Commission, Mr. Khaenthong Sisouvong.

Mr. Hu Guoquan said eight Chinese experts would Teach participants about the technical aspects of sustainable biogas technology during the programme.

“We will try our best to pass on the knowledge of biogas development to all trainees and we also hope participants will exchange their ideas with experts as well as each other ” he said.

Provincial participants are staying at the training centre during the programme which will also include a field trip to biogas production facilities in Vientiane.

This training programme also aims to promote environmental protection reduce expenses-increase income using local materials for biogas production as well as teach techniques which can be applied to daily life.

China has assisted Laos for many years in human resource development especially by continuing to provide training courses to upgrade the skills of government staff.
